The story
Who I was when I wrote it. I didn’t write this song for an audience. I wrote it for an intensive care room. My mother, a music teacher, had been in a serious car accident and was in a kind of coma, ventilated and wired to machines. When she managed to communicate, it was only with her eyes. One of the doctors told me: “Write her a song. It might help wake her.” I don’t know if it was the song. I only know that since then, I have never underestimated what music can do.
Who I had become when I finally let it go. The song eventually took me to national television. My mother and the whole family stood with me on stage, and the judges on HaKokhav HaBa gave it 92%. It was a beautiful moment. But the percentages that mattered never appeared on that screen. They were the numbers on the hospital monitor. My mother survived. Her rehabilitation took years, and it is still going.
Lyrics
I’ll take your broken heart and stop it from bleeding Hold you in my arms, now you’re breathing I’ll take the pain away and wash away your sorrow A little more strength to save the day, we’ll fight for tomorrow
You gotta fight for your life, I’m gonna pray for it You gotta fight for your life again You gotta fight for your life and save the world today You gotta fight for your life again (Ooh…)
I will be there step by step, give you everything you’re needing Brush your hair at night while you’re reading Cause no matter what it takes, I’ll forever follow We’ll find a place for a better tomorrow
(Ooh…)
Victory should paint the price you paid Like a hero in a battle, keep on fighting till the end With thoughts of all the beautiful things you’ve ever planned You gotta fight for your life, again
