Where does the real organization live?

Current position — May 2026

What I used to believe. I thought an organizational chart explained responsibility and influence.

What changed my mind. Again and again, I saw decisions move through trust, memory, relationships, and shortcuts that appeared on no chart.

Where I stand today. The real organization lives in the connections between people, systems, documents, and decisions.

What still does not sit right with me. How do we map the real organization without turning the map itself into a surveillance tool that damages trust?
